The 12th season of “So You Think You Can Dance” to Fox this summer pairing up 10 street dance to battle against 10 stage dancers. Yes, you heard it right: Streets vs Stage. “America’s Favorite Dance Show” will host auditions starting January 24th in New York, Dallas, Detroit, Memphis, and ending in Los Angeles on March 15th.

The new concept for it’s latest season will take advancing dancers, beyond initial auditions, into the Vegas portion of auditions forming two separate groups: stage and street. Stage claiming more to jazz, contemporary, ballet, tap, and ballroom while street category will take in bboys/bgirls, poppers, lockers, and hip hop freestyle.

Two years ago in 2013 SYTYCD Season 10 included a twist included two winners instead of one in which Amy Yakima and “Fik-Shun” while last year’s twist included spotlighted dance crews the opportunity to perform on the finale via America’s votes.

Another update for Season 12 as “hot tamale train” choreographer-judge, Mary Murphy, will not be returning to the show. “Mary has been a huge part of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, from mentoring the dancers as a choreographer to inspiring fans as a judge.  She will always be part of our DANCE family and we wish her continued success,” Fox, Dick Clark Productions and 19 Entertainment said in a statement to EntertainmentWeekly.
